HONOLULU, June 17 (AP) — The Navy says that a wreck found at the bottom of the Gulf of Thailand appears to be the submarine Lagarto, which disappeared while on a mission to attack a Japanese convoy in the final months of World War II.

Navy divers on Friday completed a six-day survey of the wreckage, more than 100 miles off the eastern coast of Thailand. They shot photos and video of the 311-foot submarine for analysis by naval archaeologists.

.................

The Navy will not do anything with the ship even if it is conclusively determined to be the Lagarto, since the sea is considered to be a proper final resting place for "our people who are killed in action," he said.

Tony, are they numbers too?

The Navy doesn't think so.
