About the Ramsey case

John Mark Karr

Atrios poses the following question:

Ramsey

Do people really give a shit? I'm actually not so against outlets like CNN giving the people "what they want" instead of "what they need" at times, but there are many times when I think the judgment about "what they want" is extremely flawed...

I think this case speaks to the nightmare of many Americans. John Mark Karr is far scarier to most parents than Osama, because you don't see him coming. He scares the shit out of people because he's like a snake.

Too many people on the left whine about this being news instead of turning it into a narrative of how America's economy allows untrustworthy teachers into schools because of pay scales, how working conditions force parents to leave kids alone for hours every day.

Crime will always make news, always has. But we need to start changing the narrative of these stories. Part of it is the injustice the Ramseys suffered through and part, that predators like Karr are passed from school systems without comment.

There are issues here more than fried prawns, if people seize on them.
